Life after high school can be a time of confusion, searching, learning, and struggles. It can also be a time of growth, maturation, and self-discovery. Our desire at St. Matthews Baptist Church is to be a safe place for students to travel life’s journey in community with other students and caring adults. Whether you are a long-time member of SMBC or you are in town only because of the school you attend, we invite you to be part of our community of faith.

Our college ministry has a small group Bible Study on Sunday mornings at 9:15 am and gathers for fellowship and missions activities at other times. If you are an in-town student or an out-of-town student, we welcome you to take part in as many activities as possible. All of our students are also invited and encouraged to attend worship alongside our congregation at 10:30 am on Sunday mornings and to find other ways to connect with the church-at-large.

If you are a student looking for a permanent church home or a place to continue to grow your faith while at college, check us out. If you have any questions about our ministry to college students or our church, feel free to contact Brian Johnson, Minister to Students at BJohnson@smbclouisville.org

  • Adopt-A-College-Student: Every year, members of our congregation “adopt” students from our college ministry. The goal is for each student to have a family committed to supporting them through prayer, messages, and brownies. We are currently collecting information from students and beginning on September 4, our students will be available for adoption. If you are looking to be cared for or are looking to care for someone else, this ministry might be for you!
  • College Christmas Retreat : Each year our college students retreat together before Christmas for a time of relaxation, eating, and devotion post-exams and before the big day.
  • College Mission Trip: At the end of each school year, the college students gather to make a difference in the world. Stay tuned to learn more about this opportunity to be the presence of Christ in the world.
  • Card Reach: In 2016, our church partnered with some of our students to form a student group on campus of the University of Louisville. This group has a desire to be a place of dialogue and community for students. If you would like to learn more about this group or to become involved with it, please contact the church office.
