Worship-Arts

Sundays at 10:30 a.m.

Worship is not a passive event, but it is a participatory experience. At St. Matthews that might happen through singing a current worship song or a traditional hymn. You may experience God as the churchestra plays or during a worship set by our praise band. Perhaps you will have moments of reflection during the reading of scripture or through a creative prayer time. Our goal is that worship is not about style, music, or the sermon, but is God focused and Christ centered. Come join us for worship at St. Matthews Baptist Church.

Sanctuary Choir

Our 60 – 70 voice choir leads in worship almost every week and at special events throughout the year. They rehearse at 6:30 on Wednesday evenings and are always looking for new people to join us. No audition is required.

Praise Team

The praise team is an important part of our Sunday morning experience. It is made up of volunteer vocalists and instrumentalists who love to worship God.

Churchestra

Our churchestra coordinator, Dr. Doug Smith coined this word. It refers to a church orchestra that works with what instrumentalists are available. This is indeed a diverse group. We have every skill level, from semi professional, high school band students, and even adults who hadn’t picked up their instruments for years. We welcome new players. Contact us for rehearsal information.

Ensembles

In addition to our regular worship leading groups, we are privileged to have several other small groups, ensembles and instrumental groups. Some meet on a regular basis while others rehearse on a seasonal basis. These include Make Us One (our ladies ensemble), handbells, and Joyful Sounds (our Senior Adult Choir) among others.

Preschool, Children and Youth

Our Preschoolers experience M&M’s (Music and Missions) on Wednesday nights at 6:30 throughout the school year. Grade School Children prepare a musical during the Spring Wednesday evening term at 6:30. Our youth prepare music on a seasonal basis.

Tech Team

Our tech team is an integral part of our ministry. They manage sound, lighting and projection for our Sunday morning worship experiences as well as many other events throughout the year. If you have gifts or even just an interest in sound and lighting, let us know. We’d love to plug you in.
